'Cara pa frente' literally means face forward in Cape Verdean Criol. For me, it’s about resilience and about moving forward, even when the world feels heavy. Just taking one step at a time, every day. That’s the feeling I wanted to capture in this painting. The black background brings depth and stillness. I worked with texture paste and gold accents to give the piece something you can really feel. The matte and the shine of the gold come together, just like heaviness and hope do in real life.
